Lakeland Landscapes by Frankie Cranfield...

It has taken me eight years contemplating the fells, to work out a way of capturing their spectacular wild beauty on paper. My dilemma has been that my style in watercolour (perfect for Corfu) does not suit the damper Cumbrian climate. As I am only interested in painting from life, photographs play no part in my painting, not even for reference purposes. If I cannot see it in three dimensions, I am not inspired.

I am utterly captivated by the infinite variety of subtle greens, the fleeting light, shifting mists, windswept trees and grasses, which are all part of the wonderful landscape which surrounds my studio. Now that I have discovered a way.
